It’s difficult to be the most memorable piece of the night when flanked by George Balanchine’s blissful “Chaconne” and Jiří Kylián’s seminal “Bella Figura,” yet Stephen Galloway’s new work “Devil’s/eye” rose to this challenge and exceeded all expectations. The son of a painter and a set designer, director/choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot was, it seems, destined to have a life in the theater.
