Dance Critics' Festival

We are delighted to announce the inaugural Fjord Review Dance Critics' Festival!

Designed to look at the process and art of writing dance criticism, this one-day event will feature panel discussions with Fjord Review writers, audience Q&A sessions, a conversation with special guest choreographer Lauren Lovette, and networking reception. Whether you are a writer, arts professional, or dance enthusiast, we warmly invite you to join us at 1pm on Tuesday, December 10 at the New York Public Library of Performing Arts for this unique occasion.

In this session we dive into all aspects of the act of writing dance criticism, discussing questions such as How do you prepare? Do you take notes or not during the performance? What's most important to say, and how do you structure the review? Audience Q&A session following the panel. Moderated by Rachel Howard. Panelists: Marina Harss, Mindy Aloff

3pm - Panel Discussion: Developing the Critic's Voice

In this session, we discuss such questions such as: How do you think of the audience you're writing for? What qualities have you tried to cultivate in your voice and why? How has your voice changed over time? Audience Q&A to follow the panel discussion. Moderated by Rachel Howard. Panel guests : Faye Arthurs, Phoebe Roberts, and Candice Thompson

5pm - Interview: The Critic & The Choreographer

Faye Arthurs in conversation with a special guest choreographer, Lauren Lovette
